Whenever I go to the park, I usually hit up the bigger rides because I only go a few times a summer. I've never had a ride on Flying Aces. So what exactly is snapping the cables? Sorry for the dumb question

Essentially, you maneuver the plane so that it "stalls" and the cables get slack.  When the ride catches up, the cables "snap" taught, often causing a pretty noticeable bang/thud noise.

Or, to put it another way...

Yes, and this is most likely the real reason Impulse isn't a ZIERER Tower Launch Coaster, as the cost of the power infrastructure, for a park like Knobel's in the area they are, would have likely bankrupted them. This is why I always felt the "we liked the anticipation of the vertical lift" like statements they've used as total BS. I find HangTime's Vertical Lift EXTREMELY uncomfortable.
